My best friend's dad and his two other brothers own their own coffee shop that is really popular in my hometown, San Diego, California. Their coffee shop is named Ryan Bros Coffee and they have four locations throughout the San Diego area that are all really successful. A majority of their coffee is actually on tap, making it a much more efficient way of business to prevent from backed up orders and long lines. I thought this was a very creative idea and it's amazing to see that their coffee is amazing even on tap! I often go in to their coffee shop to say hi, help out if needed and of course, because I get free coffee! I've talked with her dad, one of the owners about how exactly they started their business from nothing to becoming one of the most popular destinations for coffee! The first thing he told me was how important the financial piece is in order to start up a business. Luckily, him and his two other brothers collectively contributed to the finances for their business to get a kick start. As an entrepreneur, he also told me that it is a lot of work to keep up with every aspect of the coffee shop, with management, finances, and making sure everything is going smooth within all four locations. I admire how successful him and his brothers are and how hard they work in order to maintain their success and the quality of not only their coffee, but the experience as a whole when going to Ryan Bros. Mr. Ryan is very passionate about his job as an entrepreneur which I believe is one of the most important qualities an entrepreneur needs to possess in order to be just as successful.

I enrolled in ENT3003 because it is required for my Business major, but I am truly interested in learning about the different aspects of entrepreneurship. I admire those who are creative and passionate enough to start their own business or propose new ideas such as Mr. Ryan. I think it would be really cool to have my own business, however I think the skills I learn in this course will be helpful in any career I decide to take on in my future. I am glad this course is required because I think there are some really important skills of entrepreneurship that I can learn about in order to make myself a better employee, boss, owner, or person in general!

  1. Hi Kalie,
Your experience with your friend’s dad must have been very cool. It is great to learn from others who have been exposed to entrepreneurial activity and look at how they really run things. I also believe that being passionate is very important when getting into a businesses, some of the most successful business people come from a passion for their product and not a drive to make money.

  2. Kalie,

I love that your best friend’s dad’s coffee shop runs on tap, it definitely reduces the wait time. It’s also just really cool because I have never seen a coffee shop run on tap. I think it’s really cool that you help and support their business. I agree, like anything in life, there’s a lot that goes into running a business You have a lot of insight on what it takes to run a business because of your best friend. Your post was great, and I definitely got something out of it. I would definitely like to visit the shop if I ever find myself in San Diego.

  3. Hi Kalie!
Seeing someone you know. successfully run a business is truly inspiring. I had a similar experience with my own father's business. He also taught me the. difficulties of it but through him I saw the success as well. I agree with your statement that an entrepreneur must be passionate about his business and the concept behind it, without it, the business will not succeed. Overall, I enjoyed and agreed with your ideas.

  5. Hi Kalie, you talked about your friends coffee shop and brought up interesting details that most people wouldn't think about. I liked how you noticed small details such as the coffee on tap and passion your friends dad has for his business. Financial related items are always a priority, but you focused more on the simple pleasure of creating an environment for yourself and others to enjoy. That is hard to find now a days with some business. As far as owning a business for yourself one day I wish you the best of luck. What ever you decide to invest in, clearly you have the right mindset and a strong heart to make your dream come true.
