Title: Pedestrian killed in Oceanside on Sunday was Marine from Texas

Story: At approximately 1:10 am, 22 year-old Juan Muniz, a marine stationed in Camp Pendleton, was hit by suspected drunk driver William Vaden. Vaden was arrested at the scene where he allegedly waited until the first-responders arrived and Muniz was taken to the Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. Muniz was announced dead upon his arrival at the Scripps Hospital.
Problem: Drunk driving is illegal and puts the safety of the driver as well as potential victims in danger.
Who: The drunk driver, pedestrians, other drivers.

Title: DUI Suspect Arrested After Damaging 11 Vehicles Parked at San Marcos Apartment

Story: On Thursday morning, a 33 year-old man was arrested and suspected to have been driving a vehicle under the influence and damaging 11 other cars parked in the Prominence Apartments Complex in San Marcos. Dispatchers got multiple calls regarding this situation around 2 a.m. and when first responders arrived at the scene, the suspect's vehicle was totaled, but the suspect was not in the car.
Problem: Drunk driving leads the individual to potentially damage property that does not belong to them.
Who: The drunk driver, the victims(owners of the damaged vehicles)

Title: Flu Death Total Rises to 39 in San Diego County

Story: More fatalities were recorded and connected to the flue, rising the number of deaths to 39 this year. At the same time and season last year, the number of flu caused deaths was 24. County health officials are highly encouraging San Diego residents to contact their health care provider immediately in order for this number to continue to grow.
Problem: Sickness(specifically the flu) has increased dramatically over the past year.

Title: Poway Unified Is Latest School to Sue Juul Over Marketing to Kids

Story: Poway Unified School District, as well as 14 other California School Districts, have filed a lawsuit against Juul. These schools have seen Juul and other vaping devices affect the financial, academic, and social aspect of their students. Attendance and performance to school has been heavily and negatively influenced by vaping habits, leading these Poway School District to sue Juul for especially marketing their products to young adults and children.
Problem: Vaping has a negative impact on our society and schools have begun to see these poor habits affect performance by students academically and socially.
Who: Kids and young adults who vape, kids and young adults who do not vape, teachers, staff at schools.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your article summaries and found them to involve very relevant issues for current times. The first two articles on drunk driving have had a huge impact on our society and drunk driving is very dangerous. I found the third article on the flu interesting as well especially when you consider the number of parents who do not vaccinate their children for the flu and what that may do to the number of people with the flu. Juuling has taken over the country and has had a surprisingly huge impact on the younger generations that we never believed would be smoking.
