1. Budget cuts result in insufficient funding for public schools throughout the U.S. to provide adequate resources to their students, teachers and faculty in order to provide equal learning and teaching opportunities.

2. My solution to this opportunity is to create a foundation or organization dedicated to charity for public schools facing this problem in high poverty communities. This non-profit organization will set goals to raise money and collect donated resources that schools can use in their learning processes. It will allow people throughout the United States to donate any computers, or learning related technology or resources which will then be dispersed to schools in need. It will also hold and create fundraising events throughout the United States in order to raise money for schools to dedicate these funds towards improving their educational system and style.

  1. I believe the donation part is different, but the rest seems similar to what is already done. I know Belleview High School gets bonus money from the students passing AICE exams. Maybe something along those lines could be implemented. I also feel the situation will need to be understood more. In high poverty communities, there is no money to be donated. And when people are asked if they would like to donate to a different community, they feel like they would prefer to send the money to the school their own kid goes to - not to that school on the other side of the city. Also, after paying taxes, a lot of people feel like they have donated their fair share. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but these are obstacles you need to have an answer to when defending your idea.

Also, here is something I didn't like about this one school. Dr N H Jones Elementary school in a poor neighborhood and after segregation was banned, in order to get white people to send their kids to that school, good teachers were hired. It got to the point where there was not enough room for everyone and the kids of the poor neighborhood ended up being shipped off to other schools. So, a few of the poor kids are let in, and then the rest are shipped off to the underfunded school with the unskilled teachers and so the cycle of ignorance continues, unable to be broken by the amazing teachers. You can see it in the zoning maps for the county: the kids who live near Dr. N. H. Jones are zoned for a place that is farther away: Liberty Elementary. My point is: there is a lot to learn and even if you make a beautiful school in a poor area, sometimes it doesn't even benefit the people you hoped to help.

  2. Hi Kalie!
I completely agree that there are insufficient fundings for public schools. I like your solution idea a lot and feel as if it will work for many areas. An issue with this is that the places with lower income may not receive many donations and will not be able to better their public school system. If there would be a way we could helpt hose areas I truly believe this idea would be beneficial.
