16A- What's Your Secret Sauce?

Kalie Novosedliak
Professor Pryor
ENT3003 Assignment 16A
12 March 2020

1. Ever since I was 8, I have competitively swam and have developed an unparalleled work ethic in what I do when training for the sport at the collegiate level. I have 9 practices a week, making sure I have good time management in order to get work done, on time, and with quality. It has taught me how to be productive in everything that I do and give 100% at all times.

2. My mom is a very organized person, so I grew up constantly being influenced by that. Luckily, I picked up on her good habits in being organized and it has helped me a lot in getting work done and learning how to handle things a certain way in order to make the most out of everything I do whether its with my school work, how well I keep my room and my house, or simply just planning out my week to ensure I will not miss anything.

3. My parents have always encouraged the importance of communication to me growing up not only with them, but with my relationships with coaches, teachers, teammates, significant others, friends, etc. This has most definitely made a huge difference in having healthy relationships with people in my life and minimizes the probability of miscommunication that leads to potential problems.

4. My personality is very honest and upfront when necessary. I am not afraid to stand up for something or speak my mind regarding something that I think is wrong or negatively affecting me or anyone around me. I believe this is important and connects to communication.

5. As an older sister and first child, I would definitely say that I take on a "mom role" over my brother. My friends have even told me I am the mom of the group in always making sure everyone is okay or if someone needs something I am the first person to help. With this comes a characteristic of responsibility that I feel I obtain from being an older sister and as a part of my personality to begin with.

Interviews:

1. My roommate, Ellie
Ellie said that I am very organized and responsible with how I approach things and take care of things. She also said I do a good job in staying on top of important things and prioritizing.

2. Mom
My mom said that I am very independent and responsible with what I do and how I handle everything that comes my day. She used my move across country to go to college as an example of my independence.

3. Dad
My dad said that I am good in knowing when to have fun and when to buckle down and focus. He also said that I give 100% effort in everything that I do.

4. Coach
My Coach said that I am very ambitious and hardworking in the classroom and in the pool. He is proud of the changes I have made and how coachable I have become over the past two years at UF.

5.Brother
My brother emphasized that I am responsible and good at taking care of things and people. He said I am always considerate of other people and have looked after him constantly.

Reflection:
After these interviews and a reflection on myself, I have found a lot of parallels in what others perceive me to be and how I see myself. I decided to interview people who are closest to me that know me best in order to get the most accurate reads on certain characteristics I have like responsibility, hard working, efficient, etc. I don't think there are any differences in my part 1 and the interviews and I would not change anything from my part 1.

  1. Hey Kalie,
I agree you know how to manage your time. You tend to comment on things early, so I assume you carry that ahead-of-schedule habit with you in your other assignments. Your schedule of swim practice is very impressive and I hope you enjoy it.

  2. hello Kalie, from this post and your other assignments I can really see you know how to manage you time and keep in schedule. You look like a very hard-working person, which helps a lot in your sport. In addition, I relate when you explain the "mom role" you do from being the older sister because Im the oldest too and that has a lot of responsibility.
    Keep up your good work!

  3. Kalie,

I am also very upfront and honest, in specific when it comes to my views and morals. I also did not have any differences in from my part 1 and interviews. Time management plays a factor into the qualities that make you different. It gives you structure in every other aspect of your life. This will continue to help you become successful in whatever.

  5. It sounds like you are pretty good at planning, preparing, and time management. Those are all very valuable things I wish I was better at and need to work on. It sounds like your on the swim team at UF, while it seems fun it must take a lot of hard work and dedication. Keep up the hard work and good luck.
